Our scholarships and merit opportunities are just one way to help bridge the gap for our families. Merit Awards & Scholarship Opportunities
2017/2018 School Year

Holy Cross Scholars Merit Award
Value: $1,250 Number of Recipients: One Duration: One Year – Renewable
Value: $ 750 Number of Recipients: One Duration: One Year – Renewable
Renewable for four years to students who make the Principal’s List or Maroon List Honor Roll each quarter and perform 10 hours of service to Holy Cross and/or their parish.
Criteria:
• Student is a graduate of a Catholic grade school
• Takes the placement test at Holy Cross
• Has an “A” average in core subjects for the first semester of 8th grade
• Has no unacceptable conduct in grade school
• Confirmation of candidate as a student in good standing by respective grade school principal

Cougar Scholars Merit Award
Value: $500 Number of Recipients: Four Duration: One Year – Renewable
Renewable for four years to students who make a minimum of the Maroon or Gray List Honor Roll each quarter and perform 10 hours of service to Holy Cross and/or their parish. (Service Hours are in addition to service hours required for particular grade levels).
Criteria:
• Student is a graduate of a Catholic, public, or private grade school
• Takes the placement test at Holy Cross
• Scores 85% or above on a composite score of placement test and places 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th on placement test (NP)
• Has an “A” average in core subjects for the first semester of 8th grade
• Has no unacceptable conduct in grade school
• Confirmation of candidate as a student in good standing by respective grade school principal

*According to the new KHSAA regulations in reference to financial aid restrictions, the total amount of financial assistance that a student receives (this includes both financial aid and scholarships) cannot exceed the amount of financial assistance stipulated by FACTS. Anyone applying for any of the following scholarships must submit a Financial Aid Application to FACTS. The new KHSAA regulation does not pertain to the Merit Awards above.

Ursuline Sisters Award
Value: $1000* Number of Recipients: One Duration: Non-Renewable
Criteria for eligibility is as follows:
• Student has demonstrated service to his/her church or civic community
• Student has a connection with Angela Merici High School
• Student must take Placement Test at Holy Cross
• Student must qualify for financial assistance through FACTS
• Must maintain a “C” average or better

Holy Rosary Award
Value: $1000 Number of Recipients: One Duration: Renewable for 4 years
Criteria for eligibility is as follows:
• Student is Catholic,
• Has a special connection to Holy Rosary Academy,
• Student takes the placement test at Holy Cross,
• Must qualify for financial assistance through FACTS, and
• Must have maintained a “C” average or better.
Criteria for maintaining the scholarship is as follows:
• Is a student in good standing
• Maintains a “C” average or better each quarter and have no failing grades,
• Must qualify for financial assistance through FACTS, and
• Must demonstrate leadership skills/qualities in and out of the classroom.


Father Duerr Award
Value: up to $500* Number of Recipients: One Duration: One Year, Non-Renewable
Criteria: (submission of application required)
• Takes the placement test at Holy Cross
• Must have maintained a “C” average or better
• Must qualify for financial assistance through FACTS

Tinsley Award
Value: up to $240* Number of Recipients: One Duration: One Year, Non-Renewable
Criteria: (submission of application required)
• Takes the placement test at Holy Cross
• Must qualify for financial assistance through FACTS


John L. “Lou” Ising Award
Value: $500 Number of Recipients: One Duration: Renewable for 4 years
Criteria:
 Must be an incoming Freshman
 Service to community
 Extra-curricular activities
 Completion of essay
 Recommendation forms to be completed
 Evaluation from Holy Cross High School
 Evaluation from the Ising family
 Must qualify for financial assistance through FACTS

Roy W. & Gladys Gividen Award
Value: $250 Number of Recipients: One Duration: Renewable for 4 years
-Applicants should submit an essay of no more than 1,000 words titled, “A Liar, a Cheat and a Thief – The Value of Honesty in Today’s Society”
Criteria:
 Must be an incoming Freshman
 Submit an essay (see description above)
 Applicant grants the Gividen family permission to publish the essay or excerpts
 Recommendation forms to be completed
 Evaluation from Holy Cross High School
 Evaluation from the Gividen family
 Must qualify for financial assistance through FACTS

King Family Memorial Award
Value: $500 Number of Recipients: Two Duration: Non-Renewable
Criteria:
 Must be an incoming Freshman
 Must have maintained a “C” average or better
 Recommendation forms to be completed
 Evaluation from the King family
 Must qualify for financial assistance through FACTS

Emmaus Award
Value: $500 Number of Recipients: One Duration: Non -Renewable
Criteria:
 Must be an incoming Freshman
 Must have maintained a “B” average or better
 Must be a graduate of a Catholic Elementary School
 Must qualify for financial assistance through FACTS
 Must complete all community service required and submit an essay at the end of the year describing how you chose your service agency and what you learned from this experience


Chester and Mildred Needy Scholarship
Value: $500 Number of Recipients: One Duration: One time, Non-Renewable
Criteria:
 Takes the placement test at Holy Cross
 Must qualify for financial assistance through FACTS
 Must maintain a “C” average or better


Andy Kehl Memorial Scholarship
Value: $1,000 Number of Recipients: One Duration: Renewable for 4 years
Criteria:
• Awarded to incoming Freshman
• Must have 2.0 GPA of Above
• Be involved in 1 extracurricular activity
• An essay on “Tell us why getting a Catholic education is important to you”
