***DESALES INVITATIONAL RESULTS***

The above photo was taken after the Varsity Cougars received their trophy for placing 3rd out of 14 teams with 107 runners at the DeSales Invitational on October 24 at McNeely Lake Park. Freshman Jacob Thomson led the pack, finishing 3rd with a time of 16:59.96. Right behind Thomson was junior Dominic Perronie, who placed 4th at 17:00.00. Coming in third for the team was junior Matthew Snodgress, who placed 30th at 19:02.00. Not far behind was senior Scott Ketterer, who finished 32nd at 19:07.00. Rounding out this usual trio was junior Collin Ray, who placed 37th at 19:15.90. To finish the team, sophomore Justin Welty placed 77th at 21:09.00 while senior Damek Mitchell finished 101st at 24:40.00. Holy Cross was also represented in the JV Boys Race, where 66 runners finished. Sophomore Scott Berger had an impressive showing, finishing 19th at 21:00.00. Fellow sophomore Nathan Smith placed 28th at 22:03.00 (a personal record for Smith) while junior Chaz Bowen placed 57th at 25:58.00. Four of the Lady Cougars competed in the varsity girls race, where 63 runners finished. The group was led by freshman Brittany Bernhagen, who finished 11th at 22:33.00. Fellow freshman and newcomer Kaelyn Diersing finished 13th at 23:01.00 in her very first cross country race. Junior Sara Schum placed 36th at 25:13.00, while fellow junior Elizabeth Hardt was unable to finish due to illness. A great day for the Cougars as they build up momentum with only weeks until regionals.

***DESALES ALL-COMERS RESULTS***

After being forced to be rescheduled, the Cougars took part in the DeSales All-Comers on October 21st at McNeely Lake Park. Out of 7 team and 57 runners, the Cougars placed first with a total time of 1:31:05.00 and an average of 18:13.00. Junior Dominic Perronie finished 1st (16:52.00) while freshman Jacob Thomson - after coming off a battle with swine flu - took 2nd (17:26.00). Not far behind was a strong pack of Cougars, with junior Collin Ray leading them in at 6th place (18:55.00) - a personal record for Ray. Fellow junior Matthew Snodgress finished 7th (18:55.00) and senior Scott Ketterer finished 8th (19:00.00). Following this group was a trio of sophomores: Justin Welty at 20th (20:23.00); Scott Berger at 33rd (22:22.00); and Nathan Smith at 38th (23:39.00). Senior Damek Mitchell placed 40th with a personal record of 23:46.59 and junior Chaz Bowen finished 49th with a time of 25:44.00. In the varsity girls race, freshman Brittany Bernhagen finished 9th out of 36 runners at a time of 23:28.00. Way to go Cougars!!

***LEXINGTON CATHOLIC INVITATIONAL RESULTS***

In a rare occurrence of hardly any rain at the Kentucky Horse Park, the Cougars competed in the Lexington Catholic Invitational on October 17. In one of the largest meets of the season, several Cougars and Lady Cougars competed in this huge event. In the small school boys race where 343 runners finished and 43 teams entered, the Cougars finished 25th with a total time of 1:37:59.71 and an average time of 19:35.95. Junior Dominic Perronie was first for the team, finishing 17th with a time of 17:24.87. Following Dominic was senior Scott Ketterer, who finished 107th (19:07.40). Juniors Collin Ray and Matthew Snodgress finished 128th (19:22.51) and 192nd (20:17.30) respectively. Proceeding the two juniors were two sophomores: Scott Berger and Nathan Smith. Berger finished 263rd with a time of 21:41.80 while Smith placed 298th with a time of 23:08.02. Junior Chaz Bowen completed the Cougar pack, finishing 337th with a time of 28:08.72. In the small school girls race where 236 runners finished, junior Sara Schum placed 141st with a time of 25:12.08. Freshman Brianna Bradford also competed but did not finish due to injury. This meet was another great warm-up as the state meet draws closer.

***NORTH HARDIN INVITATIONAL RESULTS***

On October 10 at Freeman Lake Park, the Cougars competed in the North Hardin Invitational. Holy Cross was represented by six runners in the varsity boys race, where 86 runners finished. Junior Dominic Perronie led the pack in this race, finishing 3rd with a time of 17:20.78. Senior Scott Ketterer was the next Cougar in placing 42nd (19:06.42). Junior Collin Ray finished 44th with a new personal record of 19:10.22. Sophomores Justin Welty and Scott Berger were the fourth and fifth runners in, with Welty finishing 68th with a time of 21:00.87 and Berger placing 73rd with a time of 21:10.22. The sixth and final Cougar to finish was junior Chaz Bowen, who placed 86th with a time of 28:03.46. Overall, the team placed 7th out of 11 teams. Their total time was 1:37:48.51 with an average of 19:33.71.

***J-TOWN B-TEAM SCRIMMAGE RESULTS***

Here is a quick rundown of the J-Town B-Team Scrimmage at McNeely Lake Park: sophomore Justin Welty finished 2nd (21:43); junior Matthew Snodgress finished 3rd (21:44); junior Collin Ray finished 4th (21:45); senior Damek Mitchell finished 5th (25:09); sophomore Scott Berger finished 6th (25:10); sophomore Nathan Smith finished 7th (27:05); junior Chaz Bowen ran but did not finish due to injury; and freshmen newcomer Brianna Bradford competed in the girls b-team race, but did not finish due to injury.

***GREATER LOUISVILLE CLASSIC RESULTS***

A busy week for the Cougars included another race - the Greater Louisville Classic - on October 3 at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park. Holy Cross was represented by four runners in the boys' varsity race, where 206 runners finished. Freshmen Jacob Thomson finished 21st with a time of 16:51.99, shortly followed by junior Dominic Perronie, who placed 29th with a time of 17:09.71. Senior Scott Ketterer finished 114th with a time of 19:06.30 and junior Matthew Snodgress placed 145th with a time of 19:52.93.

***BARDSTOWN ALL-COMERS RESULTS***

While several of the younger Cougars were at the Derby City Classic, three other Cougars also ran on September 30th, competing in the Bardstown All-Comers at Wickland Estates. In total 16 runners finished the boys varsity race. This was the first time anyone ran this course, and the course record is currently held by junior Dominic Perronie, who finished 1st with a time of 17:12.00. Senior Scott Ketterer placed third with a time of 18:53.00. Sophomore Justin Welty finished 6th with a time of 20:19.00.

***DERBY CITY LIGHTNING CLASSIC 4K RACE RESULTS***

On September 30th, several Cougars went to E.P. Tom Sawyer Park to compete in the second race (4k edition) of the Derby City Lightning Classic. In the freshmen and sophomore boys' race in which 31 boys finished, freshmen Jacob Thomson finished 1st with a time of 13:17.30 while sophomore Nathan Smith finished 25th with a time of 17:05.01. In the JV boys' race where 13 runners finished, junior Chaz Bowen placed 12th with a time of 19:59.00.

***FRANKLIN COUNTY INVITATIONAL RESULTS***

The Franklin County Invitational at the New Horse Park on September 26 was without question the sloppiest race the Cougars have ran yet. Rain poured throughout the morning, making the course extremely muddy and slippery. In the boys varsity 5k, the biggest race (so far) of this year had 306 runners finish. Junior Dominic Perronie finished first for the Cougars, placing 12th with a time of 17:45.08. Perronie was followed by freshman Jacob Thomson who finished 19th with a time of 17:57.51. Junior Collin Ray and senior Scott Ketterer finished third and fourth for Holy Cross, with Ray finishing 129th (at a time of 19:55.72) and Ketterer finishing 131st (at a time of 19:56.40). Junior Matthew Snodgress finished 249th at a time of 21:59.53. Sophomore Scott Berger rounded out the Cougars, finishing 295th with a time of 26:17.28. The team finished 18th out of 43 teams with a total time of 1:37.34.23 and an average of 19:30.85. Junior Elizabeth Hardt was the sole Cougar in the JV girls 5k run, finishing 53rd out of 110 girls with a time of 27:19.21. Perronie & Thomson also received trophies for placing in the top 20 of their race.

***TRINITY VALKYRIE INVITATIONAL RESULTS***

On September 19th, the Cougars traveled to E.P. Tom Sawyer Park and competed in the Trinity-Valkyrie Invitational. This race was one of our most successful races, as nearly all of our runners set a new personal record. In the JV girls 5k - where 225 runners finished - junior Sara Schum returned to cross country after a state-win in volleyball and finished 98th with a time of 23:59.82. Fellow junior Elizabeth Hardt set a new P.R. by finishing 124th with a time of 24:54.39. Eight boys competed in the varsity boys 5k run where 294 runners finished. Junior Dominic Perronie returned from a foot injury at set a new P.R. of 16:35.84, placing 45th. Senior Scott Ketterer was the second runner for the Cougars, placing 190th with a new P.R. of 18:28.42. Not far behind was junior Matthew Snodgress, who finished 192nd with a P.R. of 18:29.70. Sophomore Scott Berger placed 256th with a new P.R. of 20:21.72. Nathan Smith, also a sophomore, came in 283rd with a 22:49.70 P.R. Senior Damek Mitchell finished 289th with a P.R. of 24:28.63. Junior Chaz Bowen placed 294th with a P.R. of 25:42.28. Sophomore Justin Welty also competed in this race, but due to record difficulties, he was not officially recorded in the results. Had Welty been recorded, he would have set a P.R. of around 19:20. The varsity team placed 29th out of 30 teams with a total time of 1:36:45.42 and an average of 19:21.09. In the freshmen boys race, Jacob Thomson had an incredible race, finishing 2nd out of 79 racers with a P.R. of 16:14.69. In the freshmen girls race where 39 runners finished, Brittany Bernhagen placed 12th with a P.R. of 22:30.23. Thomson & Bernhagen received awards for coming in their respective places.

***BERNARD KEENE INVITATIONAL RESULTS***

First off the Cougars dedicated this race in memory of Lloyd R. White, the grandfather of freshmen Jacob Thomson. Mr. White was one of the cross country team’s biggest fans and he tragically passed away several years ago in a shooting. Today marked the anniversary of this tragic event. Prior to the race, the cross country team attended a mass in his memory.

On September 14, the Cougars went to Nelson county and participated in the Bernard Keene Invitational. The two Lady Cougars that went competed in the girls’ varsity 5k race in which 44 girls finished. Freshman Brittany Bernhagen placed 10th with a new personal record of 24:30.95. Junior Elizabeth Hardt ran with an ankle injury and finished 30th with a time of 28:45.93. The boys ran immediately after this race, and a total of 94 runners finished this race. Freshman Jacob Thomson won the race, finishing first with a time 17:26.70. Following Jacob was senior Scott Ketterer who finished 13th with a time of 19:45.34. Junior Matt Snodgress soon followed coming in 18th with a time of 20:02.67. Sophomore Justin Welty placed 37th with a time of 21:25.19 and senior Damek Mitchell finished 82nd with a time of 26:05.02. The Cougars were able to place 5th out of 8 teams. The total time of the team was 1:44:45.42 with an average time of 20:57.09. Jacob Thomson and Brittany Bernhagen received medals for placing in their respective places and Jacob also received a trophy for coming in first. Way to go Cougars!

***HOLY CROSS GRADE SCHOOL INVITATIONAL RESULTS***

On September 9, Holy Cross hosted its annual Elementary School Cross Country meet. First off, we here at Holy Cross would like to thank all of the grade schools that participated in the meet:
Ascension, Holy Family, Holy Trinity, John Paul II, Notre Dame, St. Andrew, St. Bernard, St. James, St. Joseph, St. Mary, St. Mary of the Knobs, St. Michael, St. Nicholas, and St. Raphael. The total combined number of runners from these schools was an amazing 346 participants. Now let’s move on to the results (a complete list of results is posted at the bottom of this story). The 3rd and 4th grade boys and girls competed in a half mile course. Tara Johnson of Holy Trinity won the girls’ race with a time of 3:20 while Chris Schneider, also of Holy Trinity, finished first for the boys with a time of 3:06. The 5th and 6th graders competed in the one mile course. St. James’ Morgan Yates placed first in the girls’ race with a time of 6:14. Justin Betz of Holy Family won the boys’ race with a time of 5:57. The 7th and 8th grade runners ran a mile and a quarter course. Ally Brutscher of St. Andrew won the girls’ race with a time of 8:00 while Holy Trinity’s Max Mudd placed first in the boys’ race with a time of 6:47. Again, we would like to thank everyone that came out to run and also those who helped with the race.

***SHELBY COUNTY INVITATIONAL RESULTS***

This week, the Cougars went on the road to the Shelby County Invitational at East Middle School in Shelbyville on Saturday, September 5. This meet again proved to be fruitful, as several runners improved their times both for the season and for their personal record. In the boys' varsity race, the team finished 11th out of 17 teams. The team's total time was 1:37:54.74 with an average time of 19:30.59 per runner. Out of the 133 runners that finished, Holy Cross was represented by six competitors. Freshman Jacob Thomson finished 8th with a personal record of 17:12.41 followed by junior Matthew Snodgress who finished 46th with a personal record of 19:17.76. Junior Collin Ray finished third for the Cougars, coming in 56th with a personal record of 19:47.74. Not far behind Ray was senior Scott Ketterer, who placed 59th with a time of 19:43.31. Sophomore Scott Berger set a seasonal record, finishing 107th with a time of 21:41.70. To round out the boys' team, senior Damek Mitchell finished 126th with a personal record of 25:08.96. In addition to this race, freshman Brittany Bernhagen finished 15th with a personal record of 24:33.46 in the girls JV race. Junior Elizabeth Hardt also competed in this race, but was unable to finish due to injury. Brittany Bernhagen and Jacob Thomson both received medals for placing in the top 25 and Jacob also received a trophy for coming in the top 10. Another good race is now in the books.

***DOUGHNUT FUNDRAISER KICK OFF***

Would you like to help the cross country fundraise money for new uniforms? Would you like to wake up with a box of twelve delicious Krispy Kream Doughnuts waiting for you? Well now you can do both! The cross country team will be selling Krisy Kreme doughnuts to raise money for new uniforms. A box of one dozen doughnuts will be sold for $6.00 each and we will be collecting money and orders until Friday, September 11. After we collect all of the orders we must send the money to Krispy Kreme and wait for tickets. Once we receive the tickets, we will pass them on to you so you can pick up your order at the local Krispy Kreme. For each box sold, the cross country team receives $3.00 for each box sold. ***DERBY CITY LIGHTNING CLASSIC 3K RACE RESULTS***

On September 2, the freshmen and junior varsity Cougars competed in the first of three races of the Derby City Lightning Classic Series at River Road Country Club. They all competed in the 3k course. To start things off, freshman Brittany Bernhagen ran in the freshmen & sophomore girls' race, where she placed 23rd (with a time of 13:01.9) out of 126 runners. In the boys' freshmen and sophomore race (where 68 runners finished), freshman Jacob Thompson had a strong showing and placed 2nd with a time of 09:06.7 while fellow freshman Trevon Thompson finished 26th with a time of 10:38.6. Junior Chaz Bowen competed in the junior varsity race, placing 42nd (with a time of 15:08.3) out of 43 runners. Jacob Thompson also received a medal for placing 2nd in his race.

***ST. X TIGER RUN RESULTS***

The Cougars competed at the St. X Tiger Run at River Road Country Club on August 29. The meet proved to be a success as everyone who finished set a new personal record.
    In the boys' varsity 5k race, a total of 252 runners finished. Junior Dominic Perronie finished 19th with a time of 16:45.76 and senior Scott Ketterer finished 165th with a time of 19:28.28. Junior Matthew Snodgress also ran but was unable to finish due to injury. 
In the boys' junior varsity 5k race, a total of 213 runners finished. Sophomore Nathan Smith was the sole Cougar in that race, finishing 182nd with a time of 23:38.40. In the girls' junior varsity 5k race, a total of 165 runners finished. Junior Sara Schum finished 39th with a time of 23:44.40 and fellow junior Elizabeth Hardt finished 104th with a time of 26:28.80. In the boys' freshmen 4k race, a total of 82 runners finished. Jacob Thomson finished 2nd with a time of 13:10.67 and Trevon Thompson finished 37th with a time of 15:48.62. Dominic Perronie and Jacob Thomson also received medals for placing in the top 25 in their respective races. Congratulations to the Cougars on a job well done!

***DESALES PRACTICE MEET RESULTS***

The Cougars competed at the DeSales Practice Meet at McNeely Lake Park on August 22. In the girls' 5k, a total of 48 runners finished. Junior Sara Schum and freshmen Brittany Bernhagen both ran the race for the first time. Schum finished 23rd with a 25:03.00 and Bernhagen finished 26th with a time of 25:49.00. 
    In the boys' 5k, a total of 91 runners finished. Though a team score was not officially kept, the boys' team ran a total time of 1:35:33.29 with an average time of roughly 19:06.42. The top five included junior Dominic Perronie (1st with a time of 17:22.15 - PR); freshmen Jacob Thomson (4th with a time of 18:24.63 - first race); junior Matthews Snodgress (9th with a time of 19:21.62 - PR); junior Collin Ray (18th with a time of 20:05.01 - PR); and senior Scott Ketterer (20th with a time of 20:19.08). Other runners that finished included sophomore Scott Berger (43rd with a time of 22:10.08); sophomore Nathan Smith (67th with a time of 24:28.05 - first race); and senior Damek Mitchell (87th with a time of 27:53.40 - first race). Junior Chaz Bowen, sophomore Justin Welty, and freshmen Trevon Thompson also competed but were unable to finish due to injuries.
