He preached integrity, dedication, and discipline, but required compassion and generosity.

Lou believed that a Catholic education not only helped the student, but also the community. All his and Frances’s (his loving wife) children attended what is now Holy Cross, whether as students of Bishop David or Angela Merici. As a daughter, son, granddaughter, grandson, great-granddaughter, or great-grandson, all acknowledge that Lou greatly appreciated a Catholic education. Andy attended Bishop David and graduated in 1984. Throughout high school, he was president of his class and played many sports. His family experienced tough financial times due to the economy while he was in high school, and his parents took all 3 kids out of Catholic schools due to this hardship. However, after 3 days of attending a public school, Andy came back to Bishop David. He worked a job to help pay for school and worked in the lunchroom to help ensure he could stay at BD. He was able to remain at Bishop David all four years and was very proud of that. At his graduation, he was named Man of the Year by the faculty. Andy was a great father, husband, brother and friend and he credited his Catholic education with being vital to who he was. He passed away in 2015 from a five-year battle with colon cancer. This scholarship is awarded to a freshman who has three or more children in their immediate family and who qualifies for financial assistance through FACTS.

Be Bold

She taught us to live a bold, unashamed, unafraid life. She taught us to stand proud, to speak up, and speak out about the things we are passionate. She taught us to never be afraid of what others may think.

Be Willing to do the Little Things and Sacrifice

She taught us that love is action, not words. It is sacrifice. She taught us that the little things matter and that these sacrificial acts are truly what love is.

Be a Champion for Others

She was our greatest cheerleader and advocate. She taught us we could do anything we set our minds to do. She taught us that being a champion for others takes great selflessness and that is truly what she lived.

Be a Peacemaker and Forgive

She never liked arguments or drama. She always took the high-road and no matter what we did she forgave.

He loved his job and took pride in protecting the city he loved so much. As much as he loved his job, his pride and joy were being the best father to his two children, Mason, and Ellie. Nick worked hard to provide for his family and loved them with his whole heart.

On March 29th, 2017- Louisville Metro Police Officer Nick Rodman was killed in the line of duty at just 30 years old. He is loved and missed by his family, friends and everyone who was lucky enough to meet him. Nick had such a gentle soul and a heart of gold. His laugh was contagious, and his smile could light up a room. Nick truly lived every day of his life to the fullest.

This scholarship is funded by the Nick Rodman Legacy Foundation- a nonprofit organization that was created by his family and friends to honor Nick’s life and carry out his legacy, while supporting others in the Louisville community.
