Senior Caleb Wiegandt Name National Merit Semifinalist.
Today officials of National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) announced the names of approximately 16,000 semifinalists in the 65th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. One standout name on the list being Holy Cross Senior Caleb Wiegandt. Wiegandt along with these academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $31 million that will be offered next Spring.
Caleb, who is ranked first in his class, achieved this high honor while carrying a 4.4186 weighted GPA. He is five sport athlete, which includes Track, Soccer, Basketball, Baseball and Cross Country. Earning three State Championships along the way. He is also a member of the Excel (honors) program, Academic Team, Math Team, Big Little Brother Program, National Honor Society, Guild Council, Y-Club, Cougars For Christ and Ambassadors.
Over 1.5 million Juniors in over 21,000 high schools entered the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2018 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), which served as an initial screen pf program entrants. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, representing less than 1% of high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state.
